Natural dopamine, so called because the precursor molecule, from which George Barger and James Ewens synthesized it, is called L-DOPA. It is a important neurotransmitter of the catecholamine family, important because it controls movement, working memory, feeling of pleasure, reward, the production of prolactin, the mechanisms of sleep regulation and even attention span and some cognitive faculties.
